Oral Cancer Screening
Cancer should never be taken lightly and is extremely common within tobacco users. The procedure an orthodontist goes about testing for signs of oral cancer is very simple and can take as little as 5 minutes. The face, lips, neck, inside of the nose and oral cavity are all components in the examination for oral cancer. The main thing your orthodontist will be looking for is abnormalities in shapes, bumps, color or other asymmetries.
Once the physical exam is finished, your orthodontist will take a sample of skin tissue which will go through tests in the dental laboratory.
